Graphite

Graphite is a modern code-review platform built around stacked pull requests. Their merge engine sits in the critical path of every customer's CI — when it hiccups, thousands of developers feel it at once.

The challenge

Stacked PRs mean cascading dependencies: rebase one branch and a chain of downstream branches has to follow. A subtle bug in that orchestration doesn't crash — it just leaves a queue quietly stuck, and the first signal is a support ticket.

Graphite's engineers were strong at reading logs, but reading was the bottleneck. Every investigation began with someone tailing output and constructing a grep incantation from memory. The knowledge of which logs mattered lived in a handful of heads.

The solution

Graphite pointed their merge-queue and webhook logs at Sazabi. Instead of crafting queries, on-call asks what's wrong and follows up in plain language.

Our on-call used to grep logs. Now they ask Sazabi. The fluency gap between our most senior engineer and someone in their first week basically disappeared overnight.
